This was a massive labor of love, this birthday gift for me from THE man in my life! He bought the stove (buried in a barn) in Colorado during an elk hunt, drove home 600 miles…loaded up his nephew and trailer, drove back 600 miles and then drove back home again. Unfortunately I did not take pics of these two pieces before. Ugly, warped, rusted and coated with grease and weather. The Hoosier cabinet, dated around 1930’s, came out of a musty basement at a farm sale. It was priced at $150 and we caught it on 1/2 off day for $75. It was a warped messed. Russ replaced the bottom and back. The white metal tray came as a table from the 1940’s which I found at #jessejamesantiquemall. It was $60 and when I asked the dealer for her best price…I got it for $24 ! ! ! Russ disassembled the legs right there in the parking lot on the tailgate of his truck. He spent hours and hours on sanding and painting. It has a flour bin inside completely buffed and shiny. We shopped 3 stores for the perfect handles.
The 1890’s stove took a HUNDRED hours to sand, paint etc. etc. etc. (King & I). He took every piece apart, laid everything out…..sanded and sanded and then seriously sanded, and then spray painted all of it piece by piece, first with primer. A big box of parts went to the #harleydavidson dealer to be chromed. It had taken 5 men to load it unto the trailer in Colorado. It took 3 men and a tractor to load it into the house when done!
