If you have an antique booth here in the Midwest you can’t hardly go wrong painting up the furniture white and then distressing it….shabby chic it’s called. I’ve had success with most pieces I’ve done. Gray and steel blue are other favorite colors and sell well. This trending now for 20 years. People have gotten used to that. Throw in #hgtv and it is promoted daily. But, loving color as I do, I will paint something a bold orange or hot pink….lime green and they will sell………………………………………eventually. It takes someone LIKE ME to walk in, see the piece and they have to have it that moment! ! ! So that item sits, taking up real estate until I finally figure out that if I have to have color it has to be on a small end table….always something small. That works for me.
One day my friend Mary Jo shows me pictures of all the rooms in her house on her cell. OMG! Each room was painted white and all the furniture distressed in white shabby chic. Her curtains and accessories popped with color. The palette took my breathe away. My pitter patter was racing. Her house is Victorian and my house is eclectic, but I know it could work for me.
OK, I’m toying with having my 1st shabby chic item in my house. The husband turns his head and gives me the “ignore.” Football is on the screen and his life is perfect…..bowl of popcorn in hand. Mary Jo comes over and helps me with this chest I bought for $10 at a garage sale. Her techniques are so easy to follow. It turns out beautifully and I moved it in the guest bedroom. It didn’t fit quite right with the yellow walls, orange and lime green pillows, etc.etc.etc. (The King & I). Now it is for sale in my booth.
The following pics are of the room as it is right now. I’m thinking white ceiling and walls, #curtains #bedspread white with bright blues ?…..taking all the wall pics and relics and clustering them together encased with huge whitewashed picture frames….the lockers will be left as they are….with the rust….all the current accessories have to go. I love that, in my life ALWAYS, I have drug home ONE piece and transformed the whole room, sometimes the whole house, around it! This all started with that white dresser and then it was ALL Mary Jo’s fault! Can’t wait to post the finished result. Better get started.
