#80……Revisiting a Midwest Winter

Judging by my Facebook gang, I’m probably the only person who truly loves winter and does not want it to end….. yet. OK, so I was raised in Cleveland Ohio and had to walk uphill both ways to school, YES during lake effect weather! How did I survive! But for every obstacle, every cloud, there is a silver lining, and that is where I have found the real jewels of the season…..a time of preparation in my life that ONLY comes in winter

Soon enough Russ will have to start mowing 5 hours a week, I will have to weed and work all my flower plots…..the hard work will never end. But for now, it is the perfect time to get ready! Did I mention that in the spring I will become a golf widow?

Cleaning out the garage. Repairing equipment…….hauling stuff off to DAV. Cleaning out ALL the closets, cabinets…….Re-organizing the house, the shop. MAKING LISTS of everything that must be done, spray painting bird houses, yard décor, doing the taxes, cleaning out the basement, cleaning out the deep freeze, fixing the snow plow again…..reading a good book, playing cards, refinishing furniture, shopping LOWE’S almost daily for those 6 lag bolts, for that flower pot, extra hummingbird feeders…..OMG ordering wildflower seeds from AMAZON, need new outdoor cushions….

But not all is work.

All year Russ has prepared for his, “THE HUNT”,….not to be confused with my garage saling. He has a life too! It is the only time of year we have Bald Eagles in our front yard, sometimes 6 at a time. It is that time we watch the KANSAS CITY CHIEFS, cooking chili while the snow flies….It is a time I spend with my daughter, #1, shopping HER local antique malls and thrift shops, dreaming of collecting new “TREASURES” such as bread boards,  eating lunch out, planning our year of events….

I have till April 15 to finish all my projects before spring brings a whole new list of obligations and fun times. When you live in an area with 4 distinctly different seasons, you learn to be governed by those changes. Winter is my favorite, I can dress to be warm. Summer is the hardest, what with the high humidity, I melt, but I do love weeding the garden at 5 AM.

And garage sales start up in the middle of April……………..I must count my blessings!
