I come from a rich heritage of incredible people. As a 14 year old, my mother became a decorated veteran in the underground army in the Warsaw Uprising. She carried execution orders wrapped up as cigarettes in her pack. There are no words to describe my feelings when standing next to her in Warsaw by the bridge where this happened oh so long ago.
One day, SIMULTANEOUSLY, all top military officials, my grandfather among them (a Polish National War Hero of the Russian Invasion…a National Monument to him….written up in books…) were taken from their homes, workplaces and Poland fell. There was no one to lead the Polish troops and all was lost. Mom and Grandma were put in cattle cars and sent to labor camps in Germany. When WWll ended they were released, never to see their husband and father again. He was executed in front of a firing squad. Today a monument stands to him from the people of Poland.
My grandma, the sweet spirited woman that she was, brought joy to everyone she touched. She invented kindness…My mother was mentally destroyed and remained bitter to the end of her life. She saw violence like no person should ever see………..
My father was an American “GI JOE” stationed in Frankfort au Main. He discovered music, dancing and my mom. A very happy person, he used his GI Bill on Arthur Murray dance lessons and taught and competed the rest of his life!
CAPTAIN THOMAS WELLS of Rhode Island, my newly discovered Revolutionary War great great great great great grandfather was captured by the British, released and went right back to his unit to fight against them again.
My life is so rich because my people went before me and laid a path for my freedom. How blessed I am…God gave his only son to die for ME for the forgiveness of my sins AND my family, they gave it all.
Respectfully submitted from a Daughter of the American Revolution
