#239…Spring…AND Weed Pollen Is In the Air

I love spring this year ONLY because by last November all my flower plots had been wacked, trimmed and pruned, I am talking CLEANED OUT!!!! And this winter all leaves just blew away with storms and I welcomed spring with no clean up! I have ornamental grasses here and there and waiting till spring to wack and rake is a nightmare, especially as I get older. So the tulips came and went…daffodils, jonquils, crocuses and now here come the lilies of the valley! Got on top of weeding each plot and sprinkling Preen to stop the airborne weeds.

Yesterday was a day from heaven. I completed all the projects I planned…planting seeds in some flower pots, arranging things on my patio, Cutting weeds in my drive, spraying those weeds with my vinegar, epsom salts and Dawn concoction, Digging out all my hostas for replanting TODAY…trimming the grass around trees, watering my bucket gardens. I walked around the yard thanking the Lord for being retired and the peace that comes from gardening. The way God decorates nature with His color combinations takes my breathe away.

Today is incredibly filled with garden work…Last night we had a tremendous storm. Today will be cleanup. I am sad to think all those tiny flower seeds from yesterday are down the river headed for Oklahoma. I blame Oklahoma cuz everytime they have a touch of earthquake we have new fine lines on our patio…just sayin’. Back to garden work. Working on trimming back to an inch my spring flowers so they can nourish the roots. Moving some plants. Really zeroing on ground cover again this year. Ajuga is my favorite though I have 3 different kinds everywhere. I have mulch but get tired of having to buy every year and the work that goes with it. So in a month or so, the ajuga gets these long runners and I take my scizzors and thin them out and cut them all up into small pieces in a bucket. Then I scuff up the soil in the barren spots where there is mulch, don’t even worry about the mulch as it will grow on top of it…and hand toss the ajuga here and there…AND THEN…I hand toss garden potting soil over the ajuga….soon I won’t even be weeding. Been doing this for years and it works for me. I move plants, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I have gotten tired of digging up cannas, so I planted DEEP 3 years ago on the no wind side of my house. doused them heavily with potting soil insulation in the winter and they come up…again.

God is so good. He gave me 2 cousins in New York 3 years ago through Ancestry…we are like sisters now and today is Shirley Harwood’s Birthday!!!!!!  (she’s 39 again) He has also blessed me with my family and friends, I’m not sure they feel blessed, AND garage sales have started!!!!!!
