Garage saling has been a way of life for me forever. Mother would take us to a thrift store every Saturday and with the dresses she bought, Grandma would redesign them on her sewing machine. Mom always dressed well for work. Out of necessity I started going to garage sales about the time my children came along. Keeping them well dressed and lovely knick knacks for the house with ever changing décor, soon became a passion for me and eventually also with two of the kids…daughter..Connie and youngest son..DL
Then there is daughter Billie Girl. An ex daughter in law who lost her Mom and then asked me to be her Mom. She and I have difuculties garage saling together with me driving. Please get used to my language and spelling as I intentionally do this…..for a reason! I am so trained that when I…..but especially my car, see a spark of color at a street corner we KNOW that is a GARAGE SALE sign and I must immediately multi-task and cross over 2 lanes of traffic, spot both the yard and the parking simultaneously as only I can do….Connie & Billie Girl need many more years to develop that expertise …So here’s the problem, Billie Girl, 2 too, doesn’t appreciate the swiftness of that move. She needs to get over that whiplash syndrome I love her anyway. Time will get her there.
So I find the dog at an antique mall. A vintage 1930’s Carnival Chalkware Dog for $8. I’m in love and I have to have him. My pitter patter is racing and that’s all she wrote. That seems to be how I find all my treasures. There is NO thinking about it. When my heart pounds, that’s it. The thing is….4 year hubby, 6 year old who shaves, sez that it’s a deal breaker going shopping with him….if I want a dog in the house! OK…OK be that way. But then I saw this cute stuff and brought HIM home anyway. Things were going pretty good till later at a garage sale I found this eclectic dog…..for $1. You know people here in the Midwest are not eclectic like me with my European background. So I can find such items…CHEAP as I think they are embarrassed to even have them at their garage sales. It seems to always be the rule. I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee this dog!. He spends his time in front of a window watching for any people coming up to the door. All was well until we had company. Would you believe my carnival dog attacked the eclectic one and bit him on the nose! ! ! I had no recourse but to kennelize him. (Will have to take another pic of eclectic dog as I deleted pic by accident!)
