#14…Nothing Like Heavy Metal to Warm the Heart

I have my problems. First I get into an argument at the yard sale with the owner of this MAGNIFICENT object’de art….which would look good on my dining room table, because she wants to set it down for me so I can seriously shop, the vultures are hovering…she now tries to pull it out of my hands..”oh I can just set it down over here”……….the vultures are closing in with smiling teeth “oh I should have picked that up when I saw it FIRST”. Not going to happen! She won’t let go of #THETREASURE. I finally moved toward her, looked her in the eye and told her the story of being at another garage sale years ago and the owner set aside a bookcase so I could shop. Huge sale with lots of people there. Twenty minutes later when I went to pay for it, it was gone. She said someone had said they were paying for the bookcase and they thought it was me. I would have paid $50 for it because it was unusually beautiful with solid wood…stunning… and the price tag was $10. Go figure! So the following week I again found a bargain and again the owner said she would set it aside. I grabbed her arm…”Look at me…see my smile, see my teeth..this is me…remember what I look like!” Yea, well guess what happened. Been there, done that, bought the t shirt. Now I am getting mad, She did let go but she wouldn’t leave me alone…”Oh that’s too heavy for you.” I paid her and left, though I would have stayed and looked at all her stuff. Copt an attitude, I did. So I get home and ask 6 year who shaves if he could snip some metal clips off of it and he brings it back and sez It needs to be sanded and spray painted and than spray the bow part a different color. I’m thinking I need to get him a job at Walmart greeting people.

Words, decent words cannot describe the reaction of 6 year old who shaves when I asked him to unload this rusted piece of art out of my car. He just choked up on me. Just as well, I got accosted at the flea market parking lot by a 20’s something young mother who leapt out of her card, grabbed the bike out of my hands and loaded it in the car for me. Obviously I reminded her of her great grandmother and I needed help. That’s what happens when you let your hair grow out gray….

As I was a fairly new bride he wanted to make me happy and he did do a magnificent job of sanding the old paint off, removing one pedal, recovering the seat with a piece of leather, and shopping for AND installing the brackets. I spray painted the wire wheels copper and the bike camo green. I knew that we could never agree on a painting and I needed something HUGE to fill that #diningroom wall.  Thank you, #joannagaines, I watched the episode where you put a yellow bicycle FRAME on the wall in the entry way for your clients….I didn’t want wheels on mine either, but Russ insisted on leaving them on ….and I needed the help, he needed a nice dinner…

I painted these #highschoollockers to match the bike on the wall. A dealer was unloading her truck at the antique mall and I  happened to have our truck at the site. 6 year old who shaves puts up a lot with me but he will tell you though he never understands my vision for a room, when it all comes together it’s beautiful. Now he has taken over those lockers with his jackets and golf hats. Oh well, not to worry, my 3rd set of lockers sits in the garage…waiting.
