To me, having the right #lighting is like #accessorizing your outfit with the right #necklace, #earrings, that perfect #lipstick color…..THE shoes! It puts a finishing touch on your outfit and gives you that pop! It’s not about how nice your clothes look, it’s about how nice YOU look in your clothes. Thus enter the #lamp…….
I look back on my life growing up, then having my own home and children and remember that we kept the same lamps FOREVER and EVER. We’d buy another lamp when needed but then again it would become an heirloom antique to be passed down.
Many years ago we had met a farm couple at church. Seeing us struggle with four little ones they would stop by every couple of weeks and bring us fruits and vegetables that they grew and an occasional butchered rabbit for the freezer. Mary taught me to #quilt and Mel taught my husband how to work with #farming equipment. During those times with them…and there was nothing finer then being invited to their place for Sunday dinner, they would tell us stories. So one day Mary and I are quilting and she told the story of the #coat. She had been a child through the Great Depression and had gotten married in the early 40’s. They had a hard time raising their family on a farm in those days and every penny was accounted for. Mary needed a coat. She saved for 2 years through 2 hard winter years and finally bought her wool coat for $10.00…..a fortune to be had back then. Her husband looked at it and told her for the amount of money she had spent, she had better wear it for the next 20 years. She did and hated it.
So what does that have to do with these lamps? Mary passed over 30 years ago and times have soooooo changed. Today with all the #antique shops, #fleamarkets, #yard and #garage #sales there is no reason we can’t change out, yes, our lamps. We paint our walls, we buy lovely pieces of furniture, but our accessories we can buy so reasonably…even second hand, that a person could change #colors with each changing season.
I have discovered #industrial lighting. Russ built us a light out of a 1920’s #butter #churn and a new commercial whip for a bread machine. It is stunning!
Is that not a beautiful piece? I would encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone and shop these places. You can change the look of your home just by changing the colors of your accessories…..Don’t you feel spring in the air?
