Nothing is normal in my life. Everything adds up to NUMBERS! So this cowboy, I won’t mention names, invites me out to dinner on our first dating week, BUT first we must watch tv for 2 minutes because the Kentucky Derby is about to RUN FOR THE ROSES. Alright, different people have other interests……..it was May 4th, 2011.
Fast forward one year to May 5, 2012. his sis and hub, Marilyn and Phil travel with us in the RV to Louisville Kentucky to SEE the Derby! ! ! It was a mega experience unlike anything I’ve ever been to….a dinner cruise on the OHIO River, (OHIO is always capitalized to me, born in OHIO), the Louisville Slugger Plant, the Pegasus Parade, The glass sculpture of Churchill Downs, the farms where some of the horses are bred and trained……….the hats! The moment the glass mirror fell off the RV cabinet door above a sleeping Marilyn and almost decapitated her. My legs still get weak thinking of that moment.
Time flies…..now May 4, 2013. (Then there’s that “13” thing #67…The Big “13”) Wedding Day! We scheduled our nuptials at Brookdale Church at 4:00 so we could sneak home afterwards to watch the 2 minute Derby and on to our reception at THE RED POPPY HALL. It is wonderful to get beyond younger life awkwardnesses and failures and just learn to have FUN ! ! ! ! So we had catering by my friend Marilyn Kulmus, DJ music and dancing, and an open bar. At 9:00 we went to the Eagles Lodge and were announced as the new Mr. & Mrs…….dancing till midnight…AND THEN…we remembered that #1 daughter Connie, and sidekick hub Jeff had gone to his parents house with other friends after our wedding party, to have their own party. Of course we had to crash the party! We girls spent the next several hours in Mary Beth’s humongoussssssssssssssssssss closet drinking wine while the boys played games and drank beer. At 4 AM the younger people ran out of steam so we had to call it a day. What an absolutely perfect wedding night!
Ah yes, TODAY is May 4, 2019, Kentucky Derby Day…..oh, and our 6th anniversary. I’ve decided to renew the contract………… maybe he’s a keeper, too soon to tell yet, but maybe in another 25 years….we’ll see. I will count my blessings! Thank you Jesus!
