This was a simpler fixer upper. Only 5 days of Russ having to live in chaos, not asking questions, and sometimes having to make the bed because I did not have time to even consider it. So the first pic shows our white room with magenta panels hung in the corners to match the one color ring in the rug. Considering that all the furniture was so dark I thought I should keep a light color on the walls but I did not want to go backward into the 70’s with a yellow or light orange. And if I could soften the contrast, I would change the complete look of the living room. Salmon pink quieted the room down and made all the tiger oak woodwork POP!
I found a lovely textured slip cover on Amazon, delivered the next day! ! ! It looked cheap and depressed the whole room. Returned it the same day. I took the 50 year old arm rest covers and cut one up to put in my purse for my color palette. Off to Bed Bath & Beyond for burlap drapes, Lowe’s for paint. NEVER leave home w/o your color pallettes. (Plural for me as I have 3,658 projects going, not only my home, but all the daughters and now other people’s daughters…….)
Had to sell a recliner on St Joe Swap and Shop just to make room for this love seat I’ve wanted for years, well maybe not EXACTLY this VELVETEEN sofa…..#3SilverLipsdaughterinlawlessnessMelinda !^&*!%/”. I ended up with so much more room and the most thrilling part was that now I could have a coffee table. Up to this time, all we had were recliners….so I put 5 coats of the salmon pink on this little perfect oval coffee table. What was I thunking!? I get around those crazy women in my family and I forget all my massive assimilation of décor factoids and paint the wrong color. It’s out the door now in file13.
So does a coffee table have to be a coffee table per se? Years ago I had found the magenta leather covered hassock at a garage sale in Topeka for $15. The double step, Russ’s Dad had built in his youth, the wooden fruit picking tray came out of Jesse James Antique mall for $18, also the wire cup for $6 and oh, THE TREASURE, the old weathered wood cat from a garage sale for a dollar!
Everything ties in and flows in my living room now. Even Russ is amazed…ok…at the space. He has not sat on the sofa…he has no opinion…..men!
