As is my habit, it’s time to change out my winter knick knacks to spring decor. Almost May and I haven’t done it yet? It could be because it keeps snowing; throw in a world wide pandemic AND living 24 hours a day with a man who cannot go golfing….
The biggest frustration with my house is the dining room which used to be the living room. It is so dark….. light, but never sunlight, as it faces the east and the sun is blocked by an “L” extension of the house. Top that off with the dark floor, super dark large pieces of wood furniture and blue curtains. So this time I took each top level of wall above the buffet surfaces and decided to try to keep as light as could be. First all the small stuff went, all the extra colors. I spray painted the bamboo twig circles white….I painted the black chandelier to match the burlap color of the wall so the eye could flow ininterrupted.
My friend is Pinterest….son-in-law Jeff sez it’s the app from hell. #1daughterconnie and I ignore him. We know he has his toys too…expensive toys. That is another subject… men and THEIR toys ! ! ! So I searched how to decorate a longggggggggggggggg buffet? I love that site ! ! ! Probably got a good dozen ideas and most leaned toward the 2 matching lamps. Just happened to have them but had to steal them from another room. $21 for both from the Spotted Dog Consignment Store and the two shades from The Red Rock Antique Mall in Gladstone MO for $40. I think they look luscious, though, since the picture I spread them further out over the 8 ft top.
I spread the blue curtain panels to the sides and ordered some sheer white panels from Amazon adding more light. As you see by my daylight picture, it still tends to be somewhat dark but NOT as was. I’m just not there yet but have thought of more ideas. Where the blue runner is, I’m going to put a 6X6 round jute rug and find a ROUND tan painted dining table and tan chairs. Then there’s the fireplace mantel. I hate the rock, but think I can disguise it with huge pictures of some sort, hard to find and harder to sneak in past that other person living here……maybe I could put his self portrait on the mantle, but is small and really don’t want to introduce a pinkish orange into the color scheme. I’ll keep it in the kitchen where it belongs. If that was an eclair instead of a donut it would fit more into a formal dining room…just sayin’…
So our town is locked down as the rest of the world. We are scheduled to open up, with restrictions, May 3, 2020. I have missed being with family and friends. I miss life as I knew it. I know it will never be the same again. But my God is the same and will never change. How I love Him and thank Him for all my blessings. My prayers always for my town, St. Joseph, MO and for our people. #alonetogether
