#165…Back to Sabbatical, in Therapy

Antiquing is my reality check! Get me out of the house, mask in hand and let me dream! Imagination drives me, who knows where…..and almost puts Russ in tears.

IMPORTANT FACTOID…I am reading “The Good Times” by Russell Baker and quote..”(Mr. (Randolph) Hearst always liked plenty of exclamation marks, dots and capital letters.)” Unquote. Methinks I need to check on Ancestry if I am of his lineage….you know how I love dots…..

So I have been asking hub side kick for 7 1/2 yrs. if he would let me paint his 1970’s fireplace rock? “Oh hell no”, is his answer. A year ago he did break down and said I could paint the grout…I did a small area, then back to Westlake Ace to buy a can matching the original color. It took me 5 years of asking him if I could paint the paneling in the basement. “Oh hell no!” That’s what happens when a person builds their own home, they get attached. But you have to be smarter then who you’re dealing with….So one day, 4 years ago, I asked him if he would shiplap the paneling in the kitchen wall that extended into the dining room. Not only did he do that, but he cut his own boards to fit together…That completely did away with the upstairs paneling.  DOWNSTAIRS…”honey, do you think it would be nice if you put some really good looking brick paneling over the walls of the kitchen area?” The man was out the door hooking up the trailer to his truck and gone to Menards! I painted 3 walls of paneling, 5 coats it took, while he was setting up his sawhorses.

Back to the fireplace. That dining room is a thorn in my side. It seems so dark and I’m always trying something different. One wall has 14 coats of paint on it.  I’ve changed the dining room table twice, curtains 4 times, the walls from beige to purple to beige again……from full size bicycle on the wall, now to a plane hanging upside the wall. I’m getting closer to a solution.

Back to the antique malls, Rusty Chandelier especially, my home away from home. I see such paint ideas, I take pictures so I don’t forget these many things. AND I DREAM. I could do this…..Cooking wonderful food works good for me in my marriage. It enhances our waistlines and…”HONEY! I know you’re going to say no, but…..I was thinking….you have said, NO, I can’t paint the rocks on the fireplace, but what do you think if I wipe them with a darker paste………..?????”

With a belch and a burp he asked, “you’re not going to paint the hearth are you?
